MUSIC VIDEOS
From live action to full animation, each music video is a chance to develop a unique visual concept.
Yasamin - Baghdad Boy
An animated music video I was very proud to develop from concept to final product. A scrapbook love letter to the peaceful protesters in Iraq who were demanding a transition to a more democratic and accountable government.
Cut Off Your Hands - On The Sea
An experimental visualisation, I built this animation out of elements organically generated with the help of television feedback loops. The hypnotic and dreamy visuals were then spliced together in After Effects.
Cut Off Your Hands - Live For Each Other
Co-Directed by myself and Connor Slattery. Based on the song's theme of relationships, I want this video to keep returning to a simple ying-yang motif in different styles. The video was also filled with hidden tributes to the band Cut Off Your Hands, as it was their last single release.
Summer Thieves - Hands
I used a mix of software and hand-drawn art to turn Auckland into a drawing, and the lead singer Jake into a walking cartoon. A very technically laborious project from storyboards to final product, but I was proud of my effort.
Jonathan Bree - You're So Cool
I had a lot of fun as DOP and co-editor for this shoot with Jonathan Bree. The music video went viral after release, reaching over 27 million people. Voted by Time Out Magazine New York as one of the best music videos of 2017.
Amamelia - Love Is Useless
Inspired by live performances and public access TV, I directed this kooky low-budget variety special music video with a skeleton crew just out of a 4 month lockdown.
Yasamin - Maybe It's America
Yasamin came to us saying she'd like to do a music video where she eats an entire cake in a single unbroken take. We made it happen, and had a lot of fun planning and filming it to make it engaging.
